An Arnoldi method for unsymmetric eigenproblems and its parallel implementation

This paper describes the Arnoldi algorithm and its parallel implementation for unsymmetric eigenvalue problems raising in structural dynamics, such as damped structures. The method is the unsymmetric counterpart of Lanczos method for symmetric eigenvalues. The algorithm is implemented on a distributed memory system which is a clusters of microprocessors. Numerical examples, including a shear wall by BEM modeling and a damped gyroscopic system with eigenvalues of high multiplicity were given to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed method.
