A comparison of on-board chargers for electric vehicles with variable DC-link voltage

This paper compares two 3.3 kW on-board chargers for electric vehicles (EV) with variable DC-link voltage. The chargers consist of a bridgeless interleaved boost or buck-boost power factor correction (PFC) rectifier and an isolating DC-DC converter formed by a series resonant converter. Since the output voltage is controlled by the PFC rectifier, the voltage ratio of the DC-DC stage can be constant. Switching losses of semiconductors were measured in order to improve accuracy of losses estimation. Simulation results show better performance for the version with buck-boost PFC rectifier.
