Clinical, dermoscopic and reflectance confocal microscopy characterization of facial basal cell carcinomas presenting as small white lesions on sun‐damaged skin

Basal cell carcinoma (BCC) can present with a spectrum of clinical and dermoscopic morphologies, making their detection challenging; if left untreated can lead to significant cosmetic and/or functional morbidity. Dermoscopy and reflectance confocal microscopy (RCM) have been shown to aid in the diagnosis of BCC. Herein, we highlight the clinical, dermoscopic, and RCM characteristics of an under-appreciated morphology of BCC presenting as inconspicuous, white facial lesions that can easily go unnoticed or mistaken for fibrous papules or other benign lesions.
