A service-oriented travel portal with semantic package recommender

A service-oriented travel portal with self-service package has been developed and put into practice for Yangtze River Delta and to serve the coming Shanghai World Expo. A technical issue is raised and become critical with more service providers join the portal. i.e., the portal is supposed to be capable of dynamically finding, reorganizing the services from different providers to get new service packages, and recommending to the tourists. Based on the ongoing project requirement and technical observation, this article proposes a semantic recommender for service discovery, package composition and recommendation. The solution is featured with business-oriented semantic discovery and personalized package composition and evaluation. The involved issues and techniques are common for all service-oriented applications. The recommender is being investigated and prototyped on the travel portal to be evaluated.
