Cyclone pressure drop and efficiency with and without an inlet vane

Abstract Cyclone pressure drop decreases when dust concentration in the gas increases, when an inlet vane is installed. In this work, experimental data have been obtained for two different configurations (with and without inlet vane) in order to study these effects; these data have been compared with results published by other authors. Empirical correlations have been obtained to predict pressure drop as a function of dust load for these operating conditions. Finally, the influence of an inlet vane on cyclone collection efficiency has been studied; for large particles, the efficiency is not affected, but with smaller particle diameters, the inlet vane causes a slight reduction in collection efficiency.
