ADAPTIVE DRIVER MODELING FOR ADVANCED VEHICLE CONTROL SYSTEMS : FIRST YEAR PROGRESS REPORT FOR THE ITS RESEARCH CENTER OF EXCELLENCE

This report reports on a project whose goal is to develop general adaptive driver models that can be used in a variety of Advanced Vehicle Control Systems (AVCS) applications. Focus is to develop a mathematical model of the driver which can be continuously updated in real-time using measurements of driver and vehicle responses. Changes are tracked in driver model characteristics. This approach assumes the measurement of steering path errors, steering wheel motion, and possibly additional vehicle responses.
