Multimedia self-study courses in DSP and speech processing

A second generation of IEEE Individual Learning Packages (ILPs), available under the new name self study courses, is described. These are multimedia packages that exploit the technological and commercial opportunities that arose since the mid 80s, when the first ILPs were produced. The primary target audience is individual members, though institutional used by universities, colleges, and industry is also anticipated (distribution by the IEEE is subject to a technical review by the Educational Activities Department,). The course structure and delivery, multimedia environment, software interfacing, and curricula are described, and an example is given to illustrate the manner in which HyperCard and the server package, DSP Designer, interact. >
