Visible Light and Aqueous Ethanol Synergy: An Efficient One‐Pot Route for the Synthesis of Spiropyran Derivatives

In this work, we disclose a convenient and eco-friendly protocol for the synthesis of spiropyran derivatives by one-pot three-component reaction of ninhydrin, active methylene compounds and 1,3-dicarbonyl using Compact fluorescent lamp as a source of light in the absence of any additional catalyst. In view of the various advantages this strategy gives an efficient and straightforward pathway to construct spiropyrans in an eco-friendly fashion.
