Proposal of a framework for a sustainability maturity model

Sustainability is becoming a theme of great interest both from a business and a social point of view. Especially enterprises play a great role in sustainability and it does not surprise the number of models, tools and approaches that are been developed on this topic. But is it possible to measure how much an enterprise is oriented and effectively operates in a sustainable way? This paper proposes a sustainability model to evaluate the companies' maturity level in managing sustainability in some main macro areas, such as Environment, Social Capital, Human Capital, Business Model & Innovation and Leadership & Governance. This model relies on a structured framework, made of a Maturity Map of the above-mentioned areas, and a Maturity Framework, which is used to evaluate the Enterprise As-Is situation and point out the desired To-Be scenario. At last, along the proposed model, this paper presents also the main evidences of a preliminary validation assessment carried out for a multination pharmaceutical company.
