Measurement of residual stress by neutron diffraction

Abstract In March 1995, the Steering Committee of the Versailles Project on Advanced Materials and Standards (VAMAS) approved a new Technical Working Area (identified as TWA 20) on residual stress measurement under my chairmanship. The aims of VAMAS are to provide a technical basis for the drafting of codes of practice and materials' specifications. Its activities embrace databases, test methods, measurement procedures, design methods and materials technology. The committee decided that the TWA would concentrate initially on the measurement of residual stress by neutron diffraction.
