COLLEGES HAVE been described as breeding grounds for low moral standards where cheating is rampant and examinations often degenerate into contests in which the slickest crook wins (1). If this is true, honor systems have little chance of success and educators must evaluate and improve their methods of teaching honesty. It is the purpose of this paper to report on an investigation of the at titudes of university students toward cheating. Since verbally stated at titudes are important determiners of behavior, it is believed that this study will add to existing information and increase our understanding of this phenomenon.
