Advanced Power Modules with AlN-Substrates – Extending Current Capability and Lifetime

AlN with its high thermal conductivity allows to increase the current capability of power modules while maintaining a high insulation strength. The advanced power module design – based on the pressure contact technology to establish the thermal contact between module and heat sink – enables the implementation of AlN-substrates without any change in architecture. The results of end-of-life power cycling tests with advanced power modules using AlN, presented here for the first time, show that the lifetime can be improved by more than a factor of 2 compared to the Al2O3 version.
