The Effect of Service Time Regularity on System Performance.

Abstract : Conventional wisdom holds that the more regular the arrival process and/or service times are, the better system performance will be. Examples of contrary behavior are presented in three cases: loss systems, processor sharing, and multi-channel queues without losses. In each case, it is shown that making service times more regular can make system performance worse. (Author)
