The Dynamics of Vagueness

L'idee que l'utilisation d'un predicat imprecis, c'est-a-dire d'un predicat dont le sens est incomplet, change selon le contexte est generalement admise. L'A. se propose ici d'analyser le mecanisme par lequel s'opere ce changement en montrant comment le contexte change l'utilisation de l'expression imprecise. Il applique alors une approche dynamique au phenomene de l'imprecision et illustre avec l'exemple des adjectifs gradues que le fait de connaitre l'usage d'une expression affecte la connaissance partagee dans le discours et apporte un eclairage sur le sens de l'expression et la nature de l'imprecision.
