Modeling and controller design of ICPT pick-ups

Inductively coupled power transfer (ICPT) systems rely on effective control and dynamic analysis of pick-up loads for stable operation. However, such analytical analysis is complex due to the presence of high order, AC resonant circuits and this makes the controller design much more difficult. This paper proposes a novel equivalent DC circuitry method to analyze the dynamic response of high frequency AC resonant converter pick-up circuits in ICPT systems. The equivalent validity is proven with Pspice simulation results. The pick-up controller is developed based on the analysis of the equivalent DC model of a parallel tuned pick-up circuit. This allows simple closed form analytical expressions to be developed for different controller options.
