Optimisation of air cone-jet sensor using 2-D finite element analysis

The 2-D modelling of an air cone-jet sensor using finite element method is presented. The optimisation of its configuration is discussed in terms of the effects of the diameter of the inner venturi tube and the annular space of the cone-jet on measurement. The results have shown that the optimised cone-jet sensor has a wider working range and better linearity than a traditional back-pressure sensor. The modelling results show that the output pressure generally increases with the inside and outside diameters of the annular space. An increase in the diameter of the inner venturi tube together with the annular space also results in an increase in the output pressure, but if only the diameter of the inner venturi tube is increased, the output pressure will decrease slightly.
