Wireless sensor networks

One of the fast growing and exiting areas of research that has attracted attention in the last few years is wireless sensor networks. The recent tremendous technological advances in the development of low cost sensor devices equipped with wireless network interfaces have fueled this. This paper presents an overview of the various research problems that have been addressed in this field. First the work on sensor network architecture is discussed along with medium access control protocols, followed by routing and transport protocols. Solutions and challenges are then presented relating to energy efficient network operations, along with a discussion on data dissemination protocols, localization techniques and network security.
