TRACE. FOR: a program for the calculation of combined major and trace-element liquid lines of descent for natural magmatic systems

Abstract A two-lattice model was used to calculate melt component activities, allowing for the calculation of compositionally independent partition coefficients. The elimination of compositional dependence leaves the partition coefficients of isobaric experiments dependent upon temperature alone. The temperature dependence can be described for many trace-element partition coefficients ( D ) by a linear expression relating In D to reciprocal temperature. The combination of these trace-element expressions with a model of major-element phase equilibria has resulted in a model designed to calculate the differentiation paths of mafic and intermediate compositions as they undergo some combination of fractional crystallization, assimilation, magma chamber recharge, and tapping of the magma chamber. This program, TRACE FOR, written in FORTRAN is available on diskette for IBM PC compatible systems.
