The measurement of the probability density as a method for evaluating the autocorrelation function

Abstract At low light levels it is possible to obtain an estimation of the autocorrelation function from the measurement of the photocount probability density. This is a fast easy-to-perform method, even though the SNR obtained is smaller than that obtained from a direct measurement of the autocorrelation function. Experimental measurements have been used to check the theoretical predictions.
