Performance Analysis of MANET Routing Protocols using Three Different Mobility Models

A mobile ad hoc network (MANET) is a self -configuring network of mobile devices connected by wireless links. In this kind of networks, all nodes are mobile and equal. There is no infrastructure or centralized control. In this work, the MANET routing protocols AODV, DSR, DSDV are compared w.r.t number of nodes. The comparison is based on their performance in three different mobility models. The mobility models used in this work are Random Waypoint, Manhattan Grid and Gauss-Markov Mobility Models. Comparisons are made based metrics – Average end-to-end delay, Packet Delivery Fraction and Normalized Routing Load with respect to number of nodes for evaluating the Performance of protocols. Simulations have been carried out using Network Simulator version 2 (NS2) and its associated tools for animation and analysis of results. The simulation results clearly shows that DSDV performs well in Manhattan Grid and Gauss Markov mobility models in terms of Packet delivery ratio. AODV performs well in both Random way point and Gauss Markov mobility models. DSR experiences high average delays in Manhattan Grid and Gauss Markov mobility models. This protocol Performs well in Random way point mobility model.
