Predictive Optimal Control of Hot Strip Finishing Mills

Abstract The use of supervisory control in hot strip tandem rolling mills is discussed. A new model, which extends to distributed variables, is described and a controller using a predictive control methodology is designed. The controller is used in a supervisory capacity and takes into account constraints. A technique for controlling gauge and crown over the last two stands is described and simulation results are presented. A new result for the constrained control of gauge is also shown.
