Research on Direct-drive Wind Generation Power Converter Control without PMSG Parameters

This paper presents a new control method without generator parameters based on the comparison of various dual PWM permanent magnetic synchronous generator (PMSG) control method in wind generation system. Few literatures involve the kind of control method without generator parameters. Normally, most of them describe those methods that generator- side converter controls the generator using field-oriented control and grid-side converter regulates DC bus voltage and feeds energy to grid. This is a complicated control method relying on the precise generator parameter but it is difficult to determine exact generator parameter in practice. This paper presents a new method to regulate DC bus voltage with the generator-side converter instead of grid-side one and control the generator indirectly through grid-side converter without generator parameters. Simulation results verify the feasibility and a full scale prototype using the proposed method is under experiment and verifies the correctness well till now.
