Research on Direct Current Power Supply Grid Implementation in Riga Street Lighting System

As the energy prices increase, especially last year, the demand for more energy-efficient systems is increasing. Existing smart LED lighting systems are very efficient, and DC-Grid power supply could be the next logical technology to gain even more energy savings. The article analyses and reveals DC and AC systems comparison for the existing Riga public light systems. Three potential pilot sites (street sections) are investigated, and each of them is different in some parameters. The main focus of the study is made on voltage drop, cable loss, and overall system efficiency, and DC system architecture is proposed.
