The Effect of Hydroplaning on the Dynamic Characteristics of Car, Truck and Bus Tires

Tests were performed on a dynamic tire-testing machine reveal that in the case of passenger car tires, radial tires have greater resistance to hydroplaning than cross-ply tires when the water film is thin, but there is almost no difference between the two when the water film is thick. In bus and truck tires hydroplaning occurs most easily in worn tires. Tread pattern exerts a large measure of influence on the hydroplaning behavior of bus and truck tires.
