Simulation and control strategies for an energetically efficient wood drying process

The paper reports on the development of a model and the design of a control system for a solar energy wood drying kiln. This energetically efficient proc ess is to be developed under Secmad project. A brie f description of the main objectives of the project, the drying process and the variables involved, will be made, discussing the demands and restrictions impos ed on the model. A Simulink model of the whole drying system (process and controller), with releva nt details related with environment, kiln and wood, will be presented. Capabilities and applications of the model, namely to select an adequate control strategy, expected results and conclusions, obtaine d by the use of the model will be discussed.
