Level crossing rate and average fade duration of selection diversity with Rician-faded cochannel interferers

We determine the closed-form solutions for the average level crossing rate (LCR) and the average fade duration (AFD) of the arbitrary diversity order selection combiner subject to Rayleigh-faded desired transmission and Rician-faded cochannel interference. The average LCR is found by an original analytical approach that circumvents determination of an explicit expression for the joint PDF of the signal-to-interference ratio and its time derivative. Under specialized conditions, the obtained results reduce to previously known expressions
