CONGRESSIONAL SCIENCE FORUMS: House Committee on Science and Astronautics Takes an Admirable Pioneering Sfep

THE House Committee on Science and Astronautics has appointed a Science Advisory Panel to aid the committee in its work (this issue, page 32). Twelve outstanding scientists and engineers have accepted positions on this panel. Their duties will be to present to the committee their views and recommendations on scientific and space programs which they feel should be encouraged and initiated. Chairman Overton Brooks (D.-La.) of the House Committee has stated that his committee will provide for these men a forum in which they can speak out to the world on the problems that face it in basic and applied science, in space technology, and in space exploration. This is a step forward in developing more effective governmental understanding and treatment of scientific matters.
