Image Processing : Some Insights

After a brief overview of image science and image processing, we concentrate on the topic of image enhancement, restoration, and reconstruction, and offer three insights: (i) Severely degraded images are very hard to enhance. (ii) The crux of successful image enhancement lies in the use of appropriate a priori information. (iii) Wherever possible, one should try to get good quality images to start with. These will be illuminated by examples.
