Conformational Fingerprints in the IR and Raman Spectra of Oligoanilines: A Combined Theoretical and Experimental Study

Conformation sensitive bands are found in the sub-800-cm-1 region of the IR and Raman spectra of an imine-type oligoaniline, 1. This allows the determination of the conformation in the powder sample (obtained by the Zaghal−Shatnawi procedure) to be predominantly nonplanar E; the abundance of the Z conformer with similar energy is about 5%.
