Research on Optimal Peak Load Shifting Strategy of Battery Energy Storage System Operated in Constant Power Mode

Taking battery energy storage demonstration project with capacity in megawatt grade located in Biling substation of China Southern Power Grid as the background,an optimal model of peak load shifting of battery energy storage system(BESS) operated in constant power mode is proposed to solve the peak load shifting strategy of BESS charged and discharged with constant power,and a practical simplified algorithm for the solution of the proposed model is given.Making the battery charged and discharged by maximum power,the proposed algorithm can rapidly solve the charging and discharging strategy of BESS while the battery is charged once a day and discharged many times a day,then a real-time control strategy for peak load shifting is given.Based on two sets of actual load data of Biling substation a peak load shifting model for BESS operated in constant power mode is built and optimized by sequential quadratic programming(SQP) with multiple initial points and the practical simplified algorithm respectively,and the solutions by the two algorithms are compared.Comparison result shows that the proposed practical simplified algorithm is effective,besides results of on-site testing performed in Shenzhen Baoqing BESS also verify the effectiveness of the proposed algorithm.
