Application of UV pulse method on the UHV discharge detection

Nowadays, the methods of UHV system discharge detection are often by infrared imaging system, UV-C imaging system, etc. But none of them can measure the discharge degree of electric equipment quantitatively. As to the high dielectric level of the UHV system, the long distance from ground exists; especially in detecting the discharge of the electrical equipments on the UHV line tower, the detector must have a long enough detection distance. The highest voltage level of national 1 detector is 500 kV. This paper brings a new non-contact discharge detection method for UHV transmission system based on the UV pulse method. It can quantitatively measure the discharge of UHV electric equipments, and there is a long effective detection distance and an accurate aiming point. It can be used to evaluate the dielectric level of the UHV system. The detector corresponding to the method is also developed, and the detection ability is proved to be strong by the discharge detection test in the 750 kV Guanting transformer substation of Northwest Grid. In the test, the max effective detection distance has reached more than 32 m. The non-contact discharge detection method, which is based on the UV pulse, is applicable for the apparatus of UHV transmission system. It can quantitatively measure the discharge, then give the conditon of dielectric level. The UV pulse mentioned in the paper can provide the data evidence for the degree of discharge and insulation state by the pulse number in certain time which was measured from the UHV electric equipments.
