Adaptive optimal reclosure based on analysis of fault current transients

This paper presents a new adaptive optimal reclosure technique on the basis of a fault transient identification technique and an optimal reclosure timing technique. The fault identification technique distinguishes the nature of the fault, namely, a transient or a permanent fault, and determine the fault persistence time of a transient fault by analyzing high frequency components in the fault transient current. The optimal reclosing time is derived from the transient energy function of the power system to minimize the oscillation. The system consists of two units, the fault identification unit and the optimal reclosure timing unit. The information from the fault identification unit and the optimal reclosure timing unit cab be effectively used to determine on the reclosing strategy to enhance power system stability.
