Design of Single Angle Web Struts in Trusses

Single angle web struts in trusses are usually eccentrically loaded. Design practices vary from country to country. Most current practices recommend that eccentricity be accounted for by considering bending about both principal axes but the difficulty is in determining where the load acts. A design method for single angle web compression members in trusses is proposed. The method is based on experimental observation that the predominant mode of deformation is perpendicular to the plane of the connected leg. The design method takes into account buckling and eccentricity, and makes allowances for cases where web members are all on one side or alternatively on opposite sides.
