Spatial Variation of Lateral Measures in Different Concert Halls

The subjective perception of spaciousness in room acoustics is strongly related to the spatial distribution of lateral sound energy. Recent investigations indicate that most parameters vary severely from one listening position to another in the same sound field. The question how these variations are perceived by the listener is not fully clarified. To get a deeper insight listening tests and statistical analyses of the results are required. The aim of this investigation was to use real room impulse responses for the listening tests. To obtain sufficient material for listening tests, four concert halls in Germany have been investigated thoroughly and the recorded RIR’s have been analyzed.
