THE ELUSIVE SEARCH TO DEFINE THE EFFECTIVE COMMUNITY COLLEGE TEACHER

Advocates of the community college usually list good teaching when describing its characteristics. But what makes a good teacher in a community college? To answer this question, the authors conducted an intensive search of the community college literature beginning with the establishment of the American Association of Junior Colleges in 1920. Their research uncovered a large quantity of articles, most of which could best be labeled as opinion pieces. They conclude by revealing a surprisingly short list of characteristics on which there was some degree of consensus.
