AERODYNAMIC NOISE GENERATED BY HIGH-SPEED TRAINS

In a large number of countries, the next generation of railway trains is being developed to operate at speeds ranging from 250 to 300 km/h. These high speeds, coupled with innovations intended to reduce wheel/rail noise levels, could make flow interactions the major source of wayside noise. A preliminary experimental study designed to establish the influence of aerodynamic sound sources on wayside noise levels is described.
