Assessment of correlations between computer science department performance and college type

A a discipline that is part math, part science, and part engineering, figuring out where to best house computer science departments is not easy. It is, though, a question that many colleges and universities are facing. This paper provides some of the answers to this question by analyzing correlations between the housing of PhD-granting Computer Science departments in the United States and their performance relative to several key metrics including U.S. News and World Report scores and National Research Council research, department, and student scores. While there is not a one-size-fits-all answer to the question of where to best house CS departments, conclusions are drawn from the analysis of the correlation data.
