Statistics and metrics are key tools for achieving successful operational management, and as such, are explained in this chapter. Statistics are used in many of the Security Manager’s functions including budget requests and justification, security incident and crime analysis, risk analysis, and program monitoring and evaluation, and are important for effective security management. The statistical tools available to the Security Manager include forecasting, crime rate analysis, temporal analysis, spatial analysis, pre- and posttest analysis, pattern analysis, threshold analysis, and crime-specific analysis.
