A Dodecahedral Antenna Composed of Monopoles for Smart Antenna Applications

In this paper, the design and realisation of a dodecahedral antenna will be investigated. In a first part, the three dimensional design with pentagonal shaped ground planes will be described, and where the simulation program NEC2 (Numerical Electromagnetics Code, version 2) will be used to simulate the proposed design. In a second part, this dodecahedral antenna configuration will be simulated and optimal values for all parameters will be choosen, according to the coupling constraints and to the radiation pattern. From the physical realised antenna array, the coupling values and the radiation pattern will be measured and will be compared with the simulated values.
