Method of obtaining accurate jet lag information in abrasive water-jet machining process

As the only cold high-energy beam machining technology, abrasive water-jet (AWJ) is one of the most rapidly developed techniques in material manufacturing industry. However, the application of AWJ is limited by the cutting accuracy it can achieve. To achieve higher accuracy, better understanding in jet lag is very important. Though different methods had been explored to obtain jet lag information in the past, some inherent defects in those methods led to some inaccuracy for jet lag information. This paper have investigated a new method to obtain jet lag information, which would achieve higher accuracy for jet lag information. To further illustrate the efficiency of this method, a series of cutting experiments have been carried out and the experimental results have been discussed. Based on the experimental results, cutting front profile can be well fitted by a parabolic curve.
