Nonadherence with Immunosuppressive Drugs: Us Compared with European Kidney Transplant Recipients

tion negatively affects clinical and economical outcomes in kidney transplantation and therefore has come under increased scrutiny. A recent comprehensive review from our group on nonadherence in kidney transplantation reports that the prevalence of nonadherence with immunosuppressive drugs ranges from 2% to 67% depending on case-finding methods, measurement methods, and operational definitions. The weighted mean of nonadherence with immunosuppressive drugs over different publications is 27.7%. Nonadherence is an etiological factor in 16.3% of the graft losses and 19.9% of the late acute rejections in kidney transplant recipients.
