THE TOROIDAL FIELD COIL SUPPORT STRUCTURE FOR THE CULHAM MKIIC TOKAMAK REACTOR

This paper describes the first stage of a study into the design of a support structure for the toroidal magnetic field coil system of the Culham MKIIC Tokamak Reactor. A structure is developed which will permit blanket removal and maintenance without breaking the toroidal field coil cryostat. The study includes consideration of fault conditions and the significance of cyclic stresses, and indicates problem areas which are now being considered in greater detail.
