System Security and Dynamic Performance in the Chilean Central Interconnected System

In this work, a critical revision of the evolution of security and dynamic performance of the Chilean central interconnected system (CIS) is presented. The paper renders a description of the main events leading to partial or total blackouts, that have occurred in the CIS system. Also, a classification of the type of instability as transient, small signal, or voltage collapse is attempted.
