6H-1 Reflector Design for Orthogonal Frequency (OFC) Coded Devices

This paper will describe design considerations for orthogonal frequency coded (OFC) devices using reflector structures. The OFC device uses inline reflector banks composed of chips having differing local carrier frequencies and a time length corresponding to a chip. In order to optimize device performance, it is necessary to understand and predict reflector performance. Several parameters which need to be understood include reflector length, reflectivity per electrode, number of electrodes, intra- and inter- electrode interactions, chip orthogonality, fractional bandwidth and reflector loss. This paper will present predictive results based on phenomenological approaches and then verified using coupling of mode (COM) simulations. Experimental results for a 250 MHz OFC device show good correlation with predictions
