Reconfigurable PIFA Antenna with Ultrawideband Tuning

A reconfigurable PIFA antenna is presented in this article. It is 60×114×4 mm and can achieve through multiple configurations a total matched bandwidth of 0.6 to 6.7 MHz, at -10 dB. Simulation results with perfect components are presented. Then the impact of real components on both matching and radiation pattern is studied, using a PIN diode model and measured characteristics of a standard GaAs microwave switch. Finally a simplified and optimized antenna is introduced. (6 pages)
