This paper discusses the Association for Computing Machinery (ACM) Self-Assessment Procedures and their use for professional development. A background and history of the Procedures is presented, including a statement of intention and philosophy along with a list of currently available Procedures. The use of the Self- Assessment Procedures by individuals is described, along with ideas for use in ACM Chapter professional development programs. Three group uses of the Procedures are presented: the distribution of the Procedures in packets (particularly to new members); the formation of self-assessment workshops; and, the use of the Procedures in a CDP review course. The authors advocate the use of self-assessment as a precursor to any professional development program.
