Expressing and Enforcing Timing Constraints in a CORBAEnvironmentLisa

Real-time distributed applications such as automated factory control, command and control, avionic navigation and simulation have presented the need to extend the Object Management Group's (OMG) Common Object Request Broker Architecture (CORBA) standard to support real-time. A real-time SIG (CORBA/RT) has been formed in the OMG and is developing a set of desired capabilities for this extension. This paper describes the CORBA/RT desired capabilities that will enable the expression and enforcement of timing constraints on client/server interactions in a CORBA environment. It also describes our prototype implementation of solutions to fulllll these desired capabilities. This implementation represents a start towards creating a standard real-time distributed environment.
