Use of finite element technique for the analysis of composite structures

The paper describes the application of the finite element technique to the analysis of laminated composite structures. A methodology for the use of the finite element method for this type of analysis was developed and tested on classical problems with known solutions. Opportunity was taken to investigate the effect of pertinent finite element parameters on the analysis of composite structures. This was followed by the development of an optimum finite element model and subsequent analysis of an automotive component. The predicted stress results from this model were experimentally verified and are reported.
