A centralized approach for voltage control of MV distribution systems using DGs power control and a direct sensitivity analysis method

In this paper an algorithm based on the voltage sensitivity analysis is developed in order to keep the system voltages within the permitted limits. The proposed algorithm modifies active and reactive powers of distributed generation (DG) units in a medium voltage (MV) distribution system to do so. It consists of a load flow algorithm, a sensitivity analysis method and an optimization part. The load flow algorithm is used here for evaluating the system voltages. A direct voltage sensitivity analysis method is presented which is based on the topological structure of the network and independent of the network operating points. The problem of DGs active and reactive powers control is formulated as an optimization problem that uses the sensitivity analysis for linearizing the system around its operating points. Simulation results confirm that the proposed algorithm manages efficiently the voltage constraints and thanks to utilization of the sensitivity analysis, it is very fast.
