Evolution Scenarios for Spatial Channel Networks Toward 1-Pb/s Optical Transport and Beyond

We reflect on the development history of optical network technology, discuss the opportunities for introducing spatial channel network (SCNs) in the future space division multiplexing era, review SCN technology, and discuss SCN evolution scenarios.
